Belzoni, MS

Originally known as “Greasy Row” because of the row of saloons along the bank of the Yazoo River. Belzoni was named for Giovanni Battista Belzoni. Belzoni was selected county seat for Humphreys County, the last county to be formed in the State of Mississippi in 1918. Humphreys County is known as “The Catfish Capital of the World,” with more acres of farm raised catfish than any other county.
Belzoni carries the distinction of HEART OF THE DELTA. It is located in the middle of the Yazoo,Mississippi Rivers Delta and was chartered in 1895.
